A busy schedule of sport recently as a hectic Summer season of action seems to be very much upon us, with cricket, water sports, the Norfolk Mighty Hike and football news this week.

Cricket

In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance League, Bircham kickstarted their season as they beat visitors Martham to secure their first victory. Martham were skittled out for a paltry 120, with Tom King bagging 4 wickets and George van Aalst scoring a half century to ease the local outfit to a routine win. The 2nds lost by 189 runs at Hingham 2nds.

In the same Division, Sandringham & Dersingham’s good start to the season continued as they had an impressive, albeit tense, 3 wicket win at home to unbeaten Garboldisham 2nds with a solid all round team performance. Ollie Southgate’s 59 runs the pick of the stats. The 2nds lost by 6 wickets at Hardingham.

In Division Four, Snettisham had a convincing 9 wicket win at Swardeston with a superb 5 wicket haul for Kieran Herbert and a 91 not out for Jonathan Forder the stand out performances. The 2nds lost by 87 runs at Saham Toney.

In Division Five, Thornham’s unbeaten run came to an end as they lost by 54 runs at Mattishall 2nds, Thornham falling short in a valiant attempt to chase down the home side’s massive haul of 292 runs. Nath Linsell’s excellent 94 and Fin Hewson’s half century proving in vain.

In the Shell UK Norfolk Women’s League, leaders Snettisham lost for the first time this season as they slipped to a 43 run defeat at home to North Runcton on Sunday.

Water Sports

The Hanseatic Festival of Watersports returns to King’s Lynn on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June. Spectators can enjoy powerboat racing, jet ski racing, water ski demonstrations and various stunt displays at the South Quay whilst sampling a wide selection of fayres from the pop up eateries and bars or local taverns and restaurants along the quayside.

Locally, three talented youngsters have already started the water skiing season with excellent performances. The three sisters - Darcy (14), Luca (12) and Evie (9) - from Hunstanton Ski Club swept the board at Round 1 of the UK Water Ski Championships in Wales on Saturday, 3rd May within their respective age categories. All three will be in action at the Hanseatic Festival.

Proud mother, Kim Lumley-Manchett, said, “so proud of them to start the season so well and really looking forward to the King’s Lynn event next month”.

Football

Good news on the local football scene as Paul Hunt has confirmed he will be managing Heacham FC again next season which adds some stability as they look to build on last season in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.

Adam Lakeland has been sacked by King’s Lynn Town FC as the club look to resolve their financial affairs. Ex AFC Fylde manager, James Roe, looks to be the replacement at the moment.
