A mixed bag of results for local cricket teams although there were three centuries, Sunny Hunny’s Triathlon and Heacham Walking Football Club find out who they have got in the National Cup.

Cricket

In Division One of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Bircham 1st XI's fell to a six wicket loss at Norwich 2nds, this despite 122 runs for John King and a half century from Will Pillinger. Liam Compton managed to bag a hat-trick of wickets. However, the result doesn’t tell the full story, as Norwich only sealed the win with two balls to spare. The 2nds lost by 81 runs at home to Great Melton 4ths to make it a miserable start to the season for the local club.

In the same division, Sandringham & Dersingham 1sts made up for an opening day defeat with a five wicket win at Mattishall. A Paul Ingram half century easing them past the home side's modest target of 186. The 2nds were comprehensively beaten by eight wickets at Overstrand.

In Division Four, Snettisham lost by seven wickets at Hingham, with the returning Ryan Twiddy’s half century proving to be in vain. Similarly, a half century by Zac Fountain wasn’t enough as the 2nds were beaten by four wickets at Drayton.

Debutees to the league, Thornham 1sts are setting Division Five on fire as they made it two wins from two. A century apiece for Barney Gilder and Adam Rose, as well as a hat-trick from Tom Chudley, meant the local outfit ran out easy winners over Eaton CC by 131 runs to top the table.

In a remarkable game at North Runcton, Thornham 2nds whittled their opponents out for a paltry 54 runs. However, Thornham toiled and were 27/9 at one point, before Dave Lemoir and Shaun Baker produced a tense last wicket stand to see them over the line.

Snettisham Ladies continued their good start to the season with a 45 run win at Aylsham Ladies to top the Shell UK Norfolk Women’s League.

Triathlon

The annual Sunny Hunny Triathlon took place on Sunday with nearly 150 particpants, involving a 200m swim at the Alive Oasis, a looped 18k bike ride around the town centre and a 3.5k run along the cliff tops in glorious sunshine with funds raised going to the RNLI. Ben Keeley won the men’s event and Sarah Roan the Ladies event, George Munson and Wictoria Marcinek won the junior boys and girls events respectively.
