A great weekend of football for all local teams in action.
In the Conference League North, King's Lynn remain 7th in the table with a 3-1 win over South Shields at the Walks Stadium. A brace from Gold Omotayo and a Jonny Margett’s goal enough to keep the Linnets in the play off mix. Manager, Adam Lakeland, said, “I thought we were excellent today. Pleased for Gold. It’s not nice when you lose (having lost the last two games) but we responded today. They had one of the Division’s top goalscorers and he didn’t get a sniff”.
Sam Peck (arms raised) - Dersingham Rovers
Anglian Combination Division One side, Dersingham Rovers, have made it to the final of the Mummery Cup after overcoming higher level Wroxham Reserves at the Pastures on Saturday. The home side took the game straight to their opponents and deservedly took the lead when Sam Peck took advantage of the away keeper’s poor clearance by deftly lobbing the ball into an empty net. Dersingham managed to weather a small Wroxham storm as the referee did well to keep on top of some hairy challenges. Dan Howlett then pulled off a magnificent save to keep the home side ahead, before Peck notched his second goal, rounding the keeper and sublimely slotting in from a tight angle. Dersingham added two further goals through Scotty Gray and Joe Collison to put the result beyond doubt.
Dane Schmuda - Dersingham Rovers
A plainly delighted and proud manager, Harry Collison, said, “Saturday’s result was another massive day for the club to reach another final. With, what has been a tough season on and off the pitch, to reach the Mummery Cup final, beating three Premier Division sides on the way, was an achievement in itself. Coming up against a well-established side in Wroxham Reserves, who are 2nd in a Division above, was always going to be a tough ask for our lads but, going into the game in great form, we believed we could cause an upset. We knew we would suffer for periods in the game and the lads had to do the ugly side of the game first and, when it mattered, we showed our quality and why we deserved to be there. We hope to see lots of local support for the final against Premier Division leaders Acle United. Our focus now returns back to league action, in a tough run-in for a promotion battle”.
Zac Fountain - Dersingham Rovers
In Division Three, Ingoldisthorpe FC returned from Holt United Reserves with a creditable point in a 2-2 draw. In fact, the ‘Thorpe were disappointed not to claim all three points as Max Andrews was denied a late goal for offside in a man of the match display. Keiran Herbert and Max Andrews the scorers.
In Division Four, Heacham Reserves remain top of the table with a superior goal difference as they humbled Thorpe Village in a 9-1 rout. Five goals from the ever reliable Alfie Buhlemann and goals from Ben Dear, Ryan Mellor, Jaden Poore and Tyler Reeve sealing a routine win.
In Division One of the North West Norfolk League, 3rd placed Dersingham Rovers ‘A’ had a magnificent 3-1 victory at home to leaders Reffley Youth FC in what turned out to be a feisty affair.
Dersingham Rovers ‘A’ v Reffley Youth FC
Two early goals from Kris Smith and Sonny Devlin put the home side in charge before the referee reduced the away side to ten men as Billy Ngan saw red. Nath Mitchell scored a third to bag the points. With just four games remaining, Dersingham will be eyeing up top spot with a maximum point haul.
In Division Two, Heacham Minors FC Development remain in 4th after a terrific 4-0 home win against leaders KLSC FC ‘A’. In-form FC St. Edmunds Hunstanton are up to 9th as they saw off lowly Shouldham Youth FC, 3-1 to make it four wins on the trot. A brace from Colby Auker and a Ryan King goal enough to secure the win. Player manager, Nigel King, who played the whole 90 minutes, is now in contention for manager of the month.
In the Thurlow Nunn Youth League, 4th placed Heacham FC U18’s are in action this week as they travel to FDL Rangers U18’s on Thursday (7.45pm Kick off).
Redgate Rangers U14’s made it through to the Norfolk County Cup Final with a tight 1-0 home win over Scole United on Sunday. A Blake Perry second half goal sealing the win and capping a superb all round team performance. Elated manager, Danny Lincoln, said, “I'm extremely proud of this group of lads this season, they have had such a tough route to the final - winning against Heacham, Acle Utd, Reffley, Terrington, Fakenham Town and Scole Utd. It's been fully deserved and we will look forward to the final in May representing West Norfolk”.
