A Tea Party in aid of the RNLI was held at Hunstanton Sailing Club on Saturday, 26th April, raising £750

Tickets sold out quickly for the event with 50 people attending as sailing club members donned aprons to bake scones and cakes for the charity that saves lives at sea.

The afternoon was organised by RNLI members, Lesley Parfitt, Pru Fox and Julie Oughton. Pru, who is also a member of the Sailing Club, said, “We had about 50 along for afternoon tea, with scones and cakes made by our families, friends and club members. As well as tea, we also enjoyed Prosecco and sandwiches, with a raffle, bingo and a quiz. We sold out, so decided we had to do another one!”.

Lesley, whose daughter Charlie is a hovercraft commander at the local station, while her future son-in-law Ed is a helm, added, “When you live by the sea, you never know when you might need the RNLI”.

Pru also added, “we are very lucky to have the RNLI of which 95% are volunteers. My husband and sons windsurf and while on holiday abroad have had to help a windsurfer in distress as there was no equivalent service”.WEB Tea party Tim 4

A similar event is planned for the Autumn. Situated at the northern end of the promenade, Hunstanton Sailing Club really is one of the best vantage points for views across the Wash locally, so if you want to hire the facilities out please email events@hunstantonsailingclub.co.uk .

Volunteers at Hunstanton operate both the inshore lifeboat Spirit of West Norfolk and search and rescue hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer. They are one of the region's busiest crews, who launched 34 times in 2024.

Like those at more than 200 RNLI stations around the coast of the UK and Ireland, their work would not be possible without the kindness of those who donate to the charity that saves lives at sea.
