Hunstanton remembers the floods of 1953

An act of commemoration is to be held at the Memorial on 31st January at 11am.
Hunstanton Town Council will, once more, be remembering those who lost their lives in the Great Flood of 1953.
Thirty-one people died in Hunstanton when gales whipped up a storm surge in the North sea .
Fifteen were local residents and sixteen were from the United States who were billeted in Hunstanton and were from The 67th Air Rescue Squadron from the United States who were based at RAF Sculthorpe, just a few miles up the road.

A short commemoration service will be held at the Flood Memorial, Esplanade Gardens in Hunstanton at 11am on Friday January 31st where the names of those lost will be read out.
Everyone is welcome to come along to pay their respects, and If you would like to join the Mayor of Hunstanton Cllr Michael Ruston in walking down to the Flood Memorial from the Town Hall, you are most welcome to do so.
