A charming and elegant escape to a simpler time

In 2018 a lady who was at the top of her profession in the corporate world as an events manager for a group of hotels in the south of England decided to come home to Norfolk and open a traditional teashop in cosy surroundings for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Hunstanton High Street is the home to Berni Beans and Amanda Coral has developed her business over the past five years.

Drawing on her experience organising weddings, conferences, corporate events and exhibitions, and with more than a nod to the famous Betty’s in Harrogate, she produces teas to savour and delight and has achieved number one status on Trip Advisor for four consecutive years.
Amanda said: “I was humbled when a lady left instructions in her will to have Berni Beans provide the catering for her funeral and she said she’d been to a funeral where I had done the catering and it was perfect.”

The tearoom is quirky and says a lot about its owner who has a personality that sparkles like champagne. At its heart stands a piano that once belonged to the late Bernard Marland, a Cordon Bleu chef and dear friend to Amanda, and grandfather figure to her 3 sons Harrison, Cameron & Hayden. Bernard had a remarkable talent as a pianist and a passion for music and the business is named in tribute of him. There are Pinocchio models that once her sons played with alongside vintage tea sets and gleaming cutlery. The furniture is vintage and the lace curtains at the windows add to the 1940s feel.

Amanda continues to develop new dishes for her ever increasing number of returning customers as well as expanding her catering offering. She provides outside catering for weddings, funerals, parties and baby showers as well as business events.
Already offering occasional Tapas evenings Amanda’s plans for the future include evening dining at weekends and pre-theatre meals.

“Everything in the tearoom is pre-loved or recycled, we use linen tablecloths and bone china tea sets and ultimately I want to leave no carbon footprint; the only things that we have to dispose of currently are the jam and clotted cream packaging.” Amanda added.
