Hunstanton flies the Red Ensign
he Mayor of Hunstanton Cllr Adrian
Winnington hoisted the Red Ensign on
THunstanton’s clifftop on Friday Ist
September at 10am in support of a nationwide
call from the Seafarers UK Charity and
Merchant Navy Association to raise aware-
ness of the UK’s ongoing dependence on
Merchant Navy Seafarers.
He welcomed visitors Ian and Muriel
Mitchell who normally hoist their own flag in
their home town of Wellingborough to the
ceremony.
The Mayor then read the following message
from HRH The Earl of Wessex:
“On this Merchant Navy Day, I very much
hope you will support this campaign by
Seafarers UK to remember the sacrifices,
salute the courage and support the future of
the often unsung personnel of our Merchant
Navy. Too often they are the forgotten or
invisible service, but by raising the Red
Ensign you will ensure that at least on this day
they are remembered. Your act will mean so
much to their families and to the retired, but
most especially to those at sea.”
