‘THE MARAUDING ENEMY WITHOUT IS Christyana Fabrics & Blinds
NOW AT THE GATES’!
JANUARY SALE
ANTHONY JEWELL
This announcement was made by the erection of huge banners at
each end of the former garage site, next to the Princess Theatre, in 10% off all orders for:
the middle of our town, proclaiming the imminent construction of a
four- and- a -half storey building, intended as a retirement home, and Quality Made Curtains,
this, despite the objections raised by many residents, who do not see
the relevance of such a block in this part of our town when there are Blinds & Soft Furnishings
so many alternative residential sites available.
Overwhelming refusal was lodged by both Town and Borough Poles, Tracks, Cushions
Councils on grounds of the loss of visual amenities to the precious
vista of trees, sky line and afternoon sunlight and fresh breezes from and Accessories
across the wash, outdoor life around the Spinney and newly sculptured
play area, nudged by surrounding cafes. Contract Work Undertaken
In addition there is the risk factor associated with any high-rise
development of blocking high winds, doubling their speed, and Open 10am-4pm Tuesday-Friday
creating a vortex through the Spinney and surrounding buildings. 10am-2pm Saturday
Nevertheless, the developers, McCarthy and Stone engineered an
appeal in the far flung city of Bristol of all places, which necessitated Re-opening at 10am on
the council’s legal team travelling a long distance to defend their case,
at an estimated cost of £400,000 to the taxpayer. Tuesday 6th January 2015
The tribunal did grant the appeal, in spite of the extent and depth of
these objections, made in the interests of retaining the amenities of our
proud and much admired Victorian seaside town, as opposed to being For a quotation and friendly personal service contact:

On a broader issue, such decisions made against the wishes of the 18 Lynn Road, Dersingham PE31 6JZ

politics and democracy.
The developers are now attempting to requisition half of the Princess
Theatre’s car park in order to house their fleet of cement lorries ,
diggers, cranes, drills and storage of girders and other large equipment, P.J. PARSONS
site offices, mobile conveniences, etc: this would inevitably cause
disruption, noise and air pollution, in addition to damage to PLUMBING AND HEATING
pavements and roads, and potential problems for traffic flow, the
whole development being estimated to take well over a year….
Our town does not need it, nor do its residents want it – our Member
of Parliament Henry Bellingham, was asked to intervene at his recent
surgery held in Hunstanton - to try to establish how this appeal was
conducted and why a large bank, operating in such a remote area, has
managed to use its power to gain permission for this reviled
development. ‘Clause 106’ has also apparently been invoked, whereby
the developer pays the authority funds for local benefit and maybe
affordable housing… the details of this surely need investigating and OIL & GAS HEATING
making public.
The granting of planning permission will have considerably FITTED KITCHENS, BATHROOMS
increased the value of the site, even should the development not go & SHOWERS, CERAMIC TILING
ahead. There remain questions like these that urgently need answers,
to explain and reassure local people that their voice can be heard, their COMPLETE BATHROOM DESIGN
towns protected and their heritage preserved without any further DISABLED ADAPTED SERVICE
scurrilous erosion of this conservation area.
