       BEM awarded to Parish Clerk Janet Lake



          anet Lake who has served her community
          in Brancaster as Parish Clerk was award-
       Jed the British Empire Medal in the New
       Year’s Honours List.
        Devoted  to  the  village,  with  her  family
       going back to the Doomsday book Janet took
       over as clerk in 1966 and in 2016 villagers
       held a special party for her to celebrate her
       fifty  years  of  service  at  which  one  of  the
       longest-serving  Parish  Councillors  Noel
       Linge led the tributes to her. He said: “I’ve
       worked with Janet for forty-four years on the
       Parish Council and you know the old saying
       if you want something done, you go to the
       busiest person, and that certainly applies to
       Janet over the last fifty years at least!
        "She was a school governor, a school dinner
       lady, a founder member and secretary of the
       71 Club and has also found time to raise a
       family!
        "One of most important things we’ve had
       to do in the village is address the over 70% of
       second  homes,  and  the  Deepdale  and
       Brancaster Housing Society was formed to
       provide homes for those who lost theirs when
