Britain and the Commonwealth to begin the liberation of Europe by
liberating France. We owe our freedom and security to your dedication,
because you were ready to risk your life.” Led by the Royal British Legion Standard on 13th November for the
Act of Remembrance, the largest procession for many years marched
through the town and joined the crowd gathered around the War
Memorial.
Prior to the service in the Esplanade Gardens overlooking a calm
sea, upwards of four hundred people applauded 92-year-old Harry
Brown, the wreath layer for the Royal British Legion, who was present-
ed with the Legion d’Honneur last Tuesday.

Adding their congratulations were King’s Lynn and West Norfolk
Mayor Cllr David Whitby, Deputy Mayor Cllr Carol Bower and
Hunstanton Mayor Cllr James Johnson. The Royal British Legion
President Roy Evans addressed the audience and recited the
Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph. Alf Ball payed the Last Post and
there was a two-minute silence.

Fr James Monro conducted the service, Roy Evans recited the
Exhortation and the Kohima Epitaph. Alf Ball payed the Last Post and
Ron Penniston read the names of the fallen.
Mayor of Hunstanton Cllr James Johnson laid the wreath on behalf
of the Town Council, Cllr Paul Beal represented the Borough Council,
and friends from the USAF 67th Special Operations Squadron that is
twinned with the town joined the local organisations in the laying of
wreaths.

Smithdon High School Ms Wright with the Year 11 students

Attending the event were students from Hunstanton Primary School
and Smithdon High School. Head of History Ms Wright said: “I’m here
with Year 11 students who will be studying this period from next
September; they
are also preparing
for a special

week when they
will be talking
