Wonky yellow lines in Old Hunstanton hit the national headlines

Norfolk County Council says the lines will be redone as 'a matter of urgency'.

"I think whoever did it must have had a few," laughs Barbara York, who's lived here for more than 30 years and is out walking her dog Lucy.  "I'm all for the new restrictions, as cars used to block the road where we live, so sometimes the bin men couldn't get down to collect my bins.  But this is a mess isn't it, a real mess, they haven't made a very good job of them."

"Along my road they've just gone around bushes", she adds, "Not continued in a straight line - just gone around them!"

And it's not only attracting local attention, whilst walking down Sea Lane (where the lines get particularly wobbly) I come across a photographer who works for some national papers, "It's quite amusing how badly it's been done," he stops to tell me.

Everyone I pass has something to say, either amused or confused about how it's happened.  A few visitors laugh and say, "Well, I guess you notice them even more because they're so wonky!"

The new restrictions, which only came into force last month, will have to be re-done in places.

Nick Eastwell, chairman of the parish council, says, "Norfolk County Council highways have already acknowledged that their sub-contractor has done a very poor job lining Sea Lane and Waterworks Road." Adding, "I think the first stab of those two roads do not enhance the look of the village."

Norfolk County Council's response is, “Unfortunately the double yellow lines at Old Hunstanton have not been installed to Norfolk County Council’s specification or standards. Accordingly, we have requested the contractor to undertake remedial works as a matter of urgency. This work will be undertaken at no cost to Norfolk County Council.”
