Lynn’s Gyasi on fire, Snettisham Cricket Club steal the limelight on the cricket scene and cups dominate the local bowls action.

Football

King's Lynn FC bounced back from Bank Holiday Monday’s 4-0 defeat at Chorley by beating visitors Merthyr Town 4-0 at the weekend, to move up to 5th in the Conference League North. Michael Gyasi continues to set the league on fire, scoring a first half brace.  It is now seven goals in six games for him. Reece Hall-Johnson and Ross Crane added the second half goals.

Early days, but Lynn have started the season positively under James Rowe’s new management, who said this win was “fully deserved”. Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) they welcome 7th placed Kidderminster Harriers to the Docherty Walks Stadium (7.45pm Kick off).

Heacham FC were convincingly beaten by high flying and fancied Thetford Town on Saturday, losing 6-2 at home. Heacham actually took a deserved lead through Jake Poore before the visitors scored three on the trot to take control. Tom Beattie managed to reduce the arrears to give the home support faith before Thetford ran out convincing winners in the end with three further goals.

In Division One of the Anglian Combination League, leaders Dersingham Rovers were on the wrong end of a seven goal thriller at Thetford Rovers. A brace from Lewis Curson and a goal from Dane Schmuda not enough to salvage a point, after they came back from 3-1 down only to concede a last minute goal. They drop to 3rd. The prediction by manager, Harry Collison, that this is going to be a very competitive Division is proving to be bang on.

In Division Four, Ingoldisthorpe FC’s improvement in form continued with an excellent 3-1 win at Gayton United Reserves, Max Andrews, Aaron Herbert and George Patience with the goals. Whilst, in the same Division, Dersingham Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at Bradenham & Mattishall Reserves.

Heacham FC U18’s make history tomorrow (Tuesday) evening as they travel to Soham Town U18’s in their first ever game in the FA Youth Cup, looking to build on a unbeaten start to the season.

Dersingham Ladies FC also made history on Sunday with their first ever league game in Division Three of the Norfolk Women’s League. They could not have asked for a better start with a 1-0 home win against Necton. Emma Leech with the all important goal. Manager, Georgie Archer, said, “a good start that we can build on”.

Cricket

In Division Three of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Snettisham CC thrashed Bradfield 2nds by 10 wickets. It caps off an excellent campaign for the local outfit. They still had aspirations of winning the title at the start of the day should leaders, Sprowston 2nds, slip up. Unfortunately, they didn’t and Snettisham ended up with a very creditable 2nd place. They now wait nervously to see if that is enough for promotion, which will be determined by results further up the league system in September.

In Division Five, Thornham needed to beat Reepham & Salle at home to confirm 2nd spot. Thornham were sent in to bat and tight bowling from the visitors restricted the hosts to a very modest 112. The home side gave it all they had against the Reepham’s batting attack, chipping away at the batting order. However, five half chance catch misses, meant it was the visitors who prevailed with four wickets to spare. Thornham’s first innings posting probably proving 40 or 50 runs short of what it needed to be in the end. Notwithstanding, Thornham finished a creditable 3rd in their debut season at this level.

In Division Two, Bircham signed off their season with a 14 run defeat against Beccles, whilst Sandringham & Dersingham completed their season with a 66 run loss at champions Fakenham 2nds.

Snettisham 2nds were the pick of the performers of the local second teams, signing off with an 88 run win at Ketteringham Hall, to finish 3rd in Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League.

A full round up of all the local cricket team’s seasons performances will appear in the next edition of T&A magazine.

Bowls

Searles Bowls Club impressively won the Albert Victor League Cup Final against Rougham BC on Friday evening, with a convincing 64-44 victory. It is no mean feat for the club who debuted in Division One this season.
