Football and Cricket plus a heads up about Norfolk County Cricket Club Over 60’s who will be playing tomorrow.
Football
Suddenly there is bit of belief amongst local supporters, as Heacham FC put in a vastly improved performance in their final pre season friendly at home to Wisbech Town on Saturday. Looking defensively stronger, there was a fluency to their play as they created a number of chances against their higher league placed opponents. They hit the post and had a goal disallowed before Colby Wood sealed the 1-0 win with a superb overhead kick. The Magpies host Waltham-le-Willows in their eagerly anticipated Thurlow Nunn Premier Division opener this Saturday (ko 3pm).
Cricket
In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Bircham moved back up to second with a nine wicket victory against North Runcton 2nds. Daniel King bagged four wickets and Adam Wood a half century in the emphatic win.
In Division Three, Sandringham kept the pressure on the top two as they dispatched bottom side Bungay, chasing down 142 runs with relative ease. Callum Lee’s three wickets the pick of the team’s stats in a solid all round performance.
Similarly, Snettisham also maintained their promotion charge with a seven wicket victory over Old Buckenham 2nds. Kieran Herbert’s haul of four wickets and 77 not out proving pivotal in a man of the match display.
In Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League, Thornham bagged maximum points as they chased down Drayton’s paltry score of 70. Tom Wallace’s four wickets leading the home side to victory. Thornham remain 3rd, although only ten points off leaders Feltham. Out of form Snettisham 2nds slipped to 6th in the same Division as they were on the receiving end of a seven wicket mauling at the hands of Hardingham.
Snettisham Ladies experienced a bitter sweet weekend in the Shell UK Norfolk Women’s Cricket League. They beat Brisley convincingly on Friday, before losing to leaders Downham Stow on Sunday. Chasing down 111, Snettisham fell, agonisingly, three runs short.
Why not pop down to Thornham Cricket Club tomorrow, Tuesday, 23rd July, and cheer on Norfolk County Cricket Club Over 60’s who will be taking on Yorkshire in an important forty over league match (1pm)? Drinks and refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon with a barbecue in the evening.
