It was a busy programme of matches for local teams this weekend as the Linnets and Magpies both drop points again, and could Harry Redknapp be on his way to Norfolk?
King's Lynn FC missed a late gilt-edged chance as they were held to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at home to lowly Radcliffe.
Jonny Margetts
A Jonny Margetts penalty on the stroke of halftime cancelling out an early visitor’s goal. Whilst Lynn are unbeaten in seven at home it will be seen as two points dropped.

From being in touching distance of the automatic promotion place a few weeks back, form suggests the Linnets are now resigned to a battle to secure a play-off place. Manager, Adam Lakeland, was unhappy with booing at the end of the game despite an unbeaten seven game run on home soil, albeit with only 15 points from 24. He said, “we are a young side, so it is incredibly harsh for the players to experience this”.

Whilst possessing a young team is no excuse for poor results it is a positive, they sit in 5th position in a tough division. At a crucial time of the season the fans and club need to pull together to instil a positive attitude. Lynn travel to Lakeland’s previous club, 4th placed Curzon Ashton, on Saturday.

Heacham FC will be disappointed at losing all three points at Cornard Utd. In fact, the Magpies took the lead through an Andy Wilmott goal and could have taken a 2-0 lead but for an outstanding save from the home keeper. The home side then took advantage in the second half to lead 2-1 although Heacham will feel aggrieved at being denied a late penalty. Small margins and all that.
In Division One of the Anglian Combination League, Dersingham Rovers had a magnificent 2-1 win at North Walsham Town to keep pace with the promotion setters, with three of the teams above them slipping up. Lewis Curson and Zac Fountain notching.
In Division Three, in-form Ingoldisthorpe FC failed to build on superb recent performances as they fell to a surprising 1-0 defeat at home to Gayton United. Chairman, Eddie Herbert, said, “We had enough chances to win. We have signed Aaron Herbert and Lewis Herbert from local rivals Dersingham, so hope to finish the season strongly”.
In Division Four, 3rd placed Heacham Reserves had a walk over win over bottom side KLSC Reserves to remain in 3rd place, whilst Dersingham Reserves beat Dereham Town Development FC 7-1 to reinvigorate their promotion challenge. Two goals from Jack Johnson and a goal apiece for Todd Lembutis, Josh Winner, Jack Rix, Jake Marsden and Connor McQuaid securing the points.
In Division One of the North West Norfolk League, goals from Sonny Devlin and Zack Kingshott were not enough as Dersingham Rovers ‘A’ lost a return match to Terrington Tigers FC, 3-2, slipping to 3rd in the process. Ingoldisthorpe Reserves earned a point with a well-deserved 2-2 draw at Weeting Saxon FC. Kai Mayes and Bradley Rix with the goals.
In Division Two, match of the weekend saw Heacham Minors FC win a nine-goal thriller at home to Gaywood Utd ‘A’ FC 5-4, as they remain 3rd in the table, still just a point off the leaders. A hat-trick from Jordan Groom and a goal apiece for Alfie Sills and Tom Hawkins seeing them over the line. FC St. Edmunds Hunstanton closed the gap on the teams immediately above them as they beat bottom side FC Aburi Town 2-0 at home in a routine victory. It turned out to be the Auker show with Wes Auker controlling the back line and son, Colby, scoring a brace. Chairman, Christian Hughes was waxing lyrical about the result, saying, “a few weeks back I was considering getting my boots on, but manager Nigel King and his cohorts have turned things around of late”.
Ex-Premier League manager, Harry Redknapp, has just taken on a coaching role at Somerset side, Tunley Athletic, dubbed the worst team in England last season having lost all of their matches with a minus 137 goal difference. If FC Aburi don’t watch out they could be next on the agenda as incumbents of this unenviable accolade, presently winless and with a goal difference of minus 100 with ten games still left to play.
