We will remember them

Remembrance Sunday marked at services across West Norfolk.

"We march down to the Remembrance Memorial to remember all the people who sacrificed themselves for our freedom," 10 year old Amy Grace tells me, who's joining her fellow Girl Guides in the march in Hunstanton.

"It's Remembrance Day - remembering all the people that fought in the war," adds her friend Lucy.

The Brownies and younger Rainbows are in the parade too - 9 year old Ruby tells me she's got a poppy on her brownie uniform to, "Remember the soldiers who died."  Her and her 6 year old sister will be holding flags, which they tell me they're very excited about.

The groups then join a parade through the town to the memorial - which includes veterans, representatives from the local forces and members of the RNLI.

At the war memorial in the Esplanade Gardens a service is held, the names of the fallen are read out, The Last Post is played and a minutes silence is held.  The sun shining throughout.

More than 20 wreaths are laid, one by local school Smithdon High.

16 year old Miles Harris says, "We are here today to lay a wreath to pay remembrance to those who have fallen and served our country, I feel like it's really important to pay remembrance to those who have lost their lives so we can live our day to day life how we live it."

Fellow pupil Daisy May adds, "I felt really proud to go up there and be part of it, it was a special thing to do, I think it's really important to remember soldiers that sacrificed their lives."

Hundreds of people filled the village square, the Salvation Army Band played and a poem was read commemorating the animals that have served.

It seems only right to end with a section from 'For the Fallen', by English poet Laurence Binyon.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them."
