Volunteers wanted to support Sailability sessions

We are looking for volunteers to join the Accessible Sailing crew - the more people who volunteer the easier it gets for us to operate!

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club has set up an Accessible Sailing programme, an opportunity for people with physical, learning and mental health issues to experience sailing. This could range from simply sailing on our lake, an introduction to sailing or the beginning of a new adventure learning to become an independent, competent sailor.

You don’t need to be a sailor - we have a variety of roles including meet and greet, catering, movement assistance, pontoon helpers, hoist operators, competent helms and support boat drivers (ideally PB2 qualified). The aim is for everyone, clients and volunteers to have an enjoyable social afternoon!

There will be Disability Awareness training offered to all volunteers and volunteers will need to be DBS checked. There will also be training on offer for specialist roles, such as hoist operation.

Sailing Sessions will run from 12.00 to 17.00 on Friday afternoons between April and October.

We have a training day is on 11th April, starting at 10.00am. This is free of charge and will cover:

• Why accessible sailing at Snettisham?, our offer and aims (15mins)
• Getting to know our sailors – what do we need to know?
• Practical activity – supporting our sailors to move around the site – guiding/access/seating/sit to stand support
• Safeguarding (group discussion of scenarios)
• Practical activity – split into 2 or 3 groups depending on numbers looking at
• Hoist induction training
• Rigging &familiarisation of the boats and equipment
• Sailing
