How The List Is Created
The “Estrella Damm” Top 50 Gastropub Awards are voted for by top foodies and hospitality experts. These include gastropub operators, food writers, pubco catering development managers and executive chefs, celebrity and top hospitality industry chefs, pub guide editors, industry chiefs and food operators. The voting criteria ensures the list really is decided by the industry.
The Duck Inn Family.
The Duck Inn in Stanhoe, Norfolk, is run by Chef Patron Ben Handley and his wife Sarah. Ben's brother Sam is the manager. The Duck Inn is a finalist in The Observer Food Awards 2019 for Best Sunday Lunch, The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year 2017, GQ Top 5 UK Pub 2018, Norfolk Food Hero 2017 and now makes the Top 50 Gastropubs for the first time.
In 2017 Ben and Sarah reopened the famous Hunworth Bell near Holt and in 2018 was runner up in the British GQ Food and Drink Awards for Best UK Pub.

A family run business on the north Norfolk coast, since 2013 Chef Ben Handley and his wife Sarah have developed this 18th Century building into a true dining destination. The Duck Inn's Top 50 Beer. Elgood's Brewery who own The Duck Inn have commissioned a very special beer in honour of The Duck Inn making the Top 50 Gastropub list. The Duck Inn's Top 50 Beer is a traditionally brewed dark mild made with Crystal Malt and Roast Barley for a full roast malt character. Bitterness from English Fuggles Hops. A satisfyingly full flavour with liquorice undertones - the perfect beer for the festive period. The Top 50 Beer will be available only at The Duck Inn while stocks last.

A Historic Family Business
Elgood’s Brewery is a family business established over 200 years ago and run by the Elgood family since 1878.
In the market town of Wisbech on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border sits the North Brink Brewery, a classic English Ale brewery built in 1795, where Elgood’s proudly carry on the brewing of their own beers for local and wider distribution across the UK.
