The Carnival Comes to Town

Hunstanton Carnival took place over the weekend.

A packed schedule started on Friday with music on the green and finished on Sunday afternoon as a parade of colourful, musical and vociferous floats weaved their way through the town much to the delight of thousands of cheering onlookers.

The weekend included a mix of different music genres to meet all tastes, food and craft stalls, stunt displays, various family-friendly activities, culminating in the Carnival Parade on Sunday.

Highlight of the weekend were the ABBA tribute band, Planet ABBA, who brought Saturday’s day of music to a close with renditions of the band’s favourite tunes to a packed Green.

The town had a festive atmosphere throughout the weekend, with an estimated 5,000 people attending over the course of the three days. The community spirit was plain to see as locals mixed with visitors who had travelled from across the region to enjoy the festivities and entertainment.

Now the carnival is over, local mayor, Cllr Tony Bishopp said, “it’s been four years since Hunstanton Town Council took on the noble task of organising the event and we are incredibly lucky to have local businesses who’ve generously sponsored the weekend”.

Cllr Bishopp also thanked the small but mighty team of volunteers and the Hunstanton Town Council Events team who all worked long hours behind the scenes. “You may be few in number, but your effort, energy, and community spirit have been the heartbeat of this event”, he said. And, of course, “a special thank you to everyone who attended making it such a special occasion, exceeding all expectations. See you all again next year”.
