Heacham FC narrowly failed to make it four league wins on the trot as they lost a seven goal thriller at Soham Town Rangers 4-3 on Saturday. The home side actually went 3-0 up before Heacham rallied superbly with goals from Josh Williams, Jack Prentice and the in-form Colby Wood, but fell just short. The Magpies remain five points clear of the drop zone and travel to bottom side Sheringham FC tomorrow (Tuesday) evening (7.45pm Kick off).
In Division One of the Anglian Combination League, Dersingham Rovers slipped to 6th after a 2-0 loss at new leaders Thetford Rovers.
Ingoldisthorpe FC are in the hat for the third round draw of the Norfolk Junior Cup after a thrilling 5-3 win at Heacham Reserves. The Thorpe’s clinical finishing proving too much for the hosts where a brace from Jake Ess and goals from Josh Andrews, Dylan Ess and Keiran Herbert actually put the visitors 5-1 up before a late rally by Heacham proved in vain. Tyler Marsh, Wilfred Pooley and Tyler Reeve netted for the home side. In the same competition Dersingham Reserves lost 2-0 at Norwich Medics FC.
In Division One of the North West Norfolk League, Dersingham Rovers ‘A’ now top the table after a 5-3 derby success at home to Ingoldisthorpe Reserves. Bottom side Ingoldisthorpe actually made a good fight of it, holding the hosts 2-2 at half time helped by a brace from Thomas Hosty. However, in the end a hat-trick from Nathan Mitchell and a goal apiece from Sonny Devlin and Chris Freeman saw the home side prevail.
In Division Two, Heacham Minors Development FC are up to 4th place after a 13-0 goal rout at bottom side FC Aburi Town FC.
Cricket
The Norfolk Cricket Alliance (NCA) League have demoted Bircham Cricket Club from 1st to 3rd in Division Two, meaning the local outfit now miss out on promotion. The NCA deducted the club 50 points due to ill-discipline.
Bircham were already aggrieved this season having been denied maximum points from a postponed match and a rain interrupted game which was abandoned when they required just two runs to win, this despite blatant time wasting from their opponents to reach the 8.30pm cut off time. In a double whammy, it is understood the points deduction is as a consequence of their overreaction in this match.
Bircham were worthy winners of the Division and are unsurprisingly disappointed with this post-season decision, especially as in most sports such point deductions are applied during the season or carried forward to the following season. A club spokesperson said, “as a club it is still raw and upsetting that the league have reached this decision, but the players are sticking together. We will be strong and try for promotion again next season”.
Thornham CC are awaiting a decision by the NCA to see if they have been promoted from the Norfolk Cricket League to the NCA League. An announcement is expected in November.
