Nearly 100 runners braved the tough conditions on Sunday to compete in either the 5k or 10k runs along to the beach between Hunstanton and Heacham.

Local MP, James Wild and wife, Baroness Natalie Evans, joined the 5k run and performed admirably. Whilst the runners set off in windy conditions, the sun did appear as they began to cross the finishing line. All proceeds went to the RNLI.

KL1 Radio were in attendance to compere the event and create a festive vibe on the day, whilst Stormy Stan was on hand to gee up the runners during the pre-race mass warm up. Unfortunately, he was unable to take part in the race itself due to an apparent hamstring injury.

Events organiser for the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, Jess Pearce, said, “thank you to all those who turned out in very trying conditions, both runners and spectators, and to all those who donated to a very worthy cause”.

Cricket

A weather hampered weekend of cricket for local teams.
In Division One of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Bircham will feel slightly aggrieved as their home match against Mattishall was abandoned as they were looking to secure maximum points. A case of déjà vu from last season where they dropped points in similar circumstances.

The 2nds were convincingly beaten by 186 runs at Gooderstone.

In the same Division, Sandringham & Dersingham returned to winning ways with a routine 9 wicket win at Martham as they easily chased down the home side’s meagre posting of 82. Peter Brassett’s four wickets setting them on the way.

The 2nd’s game was rather fortuitously abandoned as they were heading for defeat.

In Division Four, a close game between Snettisham and Rocklands looked to be going down to the wire before the game was also abandoned.

The 2nds had an excellent 5 wicket win at Hardingham to move up to 2nd in Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League.

In Division Five, Thornham’s title aspirations took another hit as they lost at home to leaders Mundford by 4 wickets, whilst the 2nds game was abandoned.

Snettisham Ladies returned from Sheringham with maximum points in the Shell UK Norfolk Women’s Cricket League. Chasing down 70, they ran out easy winners with no loss of wickets, to remain top of the table.
