Searles GC welcomed neighbours and previous finalists Heacham Manor GC in the last 16 of the Cullington Cup on Sunday looking to build on last month's win against Hunstanton GC in the previous round. And they did just that, winning the match, which is played over 36 holes, 6.5/1.5. They move into the Quarter Finals and will travel to Caldecott Hall Golf Club near Gt. Yarmouth.A wax lyrical and delighted non playing captain, Dave Cox, said, “it was a pleasure to play against our closest neighbours, and it was played in the right spirit”. Heacham Manor GC captain, Tony Thacker, thanked his hosts, and wished them well in the next round.
Winning Searles GC team: Colin Rust, Steve Matthews, Steve May, Charlie May, Dave Cox, Roger Martin, Paul Fisher, Pete Green and Rob Hills
Cricket
In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance League, Sandringham & Dersingham moved up to 4th with a seven wicket win at bottom side Martham. Adam Burch’s five wicket haul setting them on their way. The 2nds made it a good weekend for the local club as they secured a tense 8 run win at Drayton, with a century from Tony Sadler and an unbeaten 98 from Sary Rahma.
In the same division, Bircham’s good run of form came to an end, as they lost by just one wicket to Garboldisham 2nds. Garboldisham were 125/9 chasing down 160, but, despite Liam Compton’s five wickets, Bircham failed to get that final crucial wicket. The 2nds lost by 162 runs at Garboldisham 4ths.
In Division Four, Snettisham had a routine nine wicket win at Bungay with Ryan Twiddy’s 60 not out, Johnny Forders unbeaten half century and Danny Arnold’s four wickets the pick of the stats to move them into the top half of the table. The 2nds also had a good win, beating Overstrand by five wickets, Sachin Rathnayake’s four wicket haul paving the way.
In Division Five, Thornham’s title aspirations took yet another hit as they were comprehensively beaten at Mundford by nine wickets. Kev Williamson’s half century the only consolation. The 2nds lost at home to Mundford 2nds by 61 runs.
Superhero
The Norfolk Superhero returned to Burnham Overy Staithe on Saturday. The warm weather certainly added to the test as participants, who relish an endurance challenge, undertook a one mile swim, four mile kayak through the creeks, a forty five mile cycle ride and eight mile run across the beach in teams of pairs.
The event raises money for the Norfolk Community Foundation’s “A better Childhood” mission to get children active in Norfolk.
For the record, Ben Keeley and Daniel Guppy won the race in an impressive time of 4 hours and 32 minutes.
