Toby Turner keeps up his winning streak on the water, Hunstanton Men’s Indoor Bowls team topple leaders and weather continues to decimate football calendar
Sailing
Toby Turner continued his successful streak over the Christmas period, podiuming in 2nd place in the Youth Open at Draycote Water Sailing Club.
There were 34 boats in the largest fleet of the day. Toby was 'delighted' with the result, adding, “It was very, very cold!”
Since joining the ILCA 4 Fleet in August, Toby has not been outside the Top 3, "I am really enjoying my ILCA boat and the fleet is really competitive but I train hard and enjoy a lot of time on the water to practice whenever I can.
"I am regularly training in the gym, or out for a run and on the watt bike when I'm not on the water. I have great coaches that support me at Draycote and Weymouth and I'm really looking forward to what this season brings."
Next stop was the Snowflakes Sailing Club Youth Open at Wroxham and then onto National Training in Weymouth, continuing with his Winter training at Draycote Academy with GBR Coach Steve Irish, East Region Training at Grafham Water Sailing Club before the ILCA National Qualifying rounds start up in March - where Toby hopes to qualify for the ILCA World's in Denmark this August.
Toby, along with his sister Faith, will also be representing Great Britain at the European Championships in Mar Menor, Spain this Easter.
He is actively looking for local sponsorship, no matter how small to help support his European and World Champs Campaigns. Please email hayleytooke@hotmail.com if you are interested in getting alongside Toby.
Indoor Bowls

With the Ladies ending 2025 on a high, topping their division, it was the turn of Hunstanton’s men on Saturday as they welcomed local rivals and Division Four leaders, Lynnsport, in an eagerly anticipated encounter.
The Rink Three team of Adam Wells, Frazer Clement, Chris Wright and Paul Hallifax gave the local outfit the perfect start, storming into an unassailable lead and triumphing 27-5, virtually single handedly securing 3 points for the overall aggregate score and a point for winning the rink.

That left the other three rinks playing for an additional point each, although, with just two ends to go, all three were behind. Rink Four managed to win their game on the last end, whilst Rink Two were beaten by two points.
That left the Rink One team, who had been behind all game, battling for another point. However, an amazing last end saw the team of Graham Keeley, David Ilsley, Ian Cain and Stuart Davidson bag a whopping and very rare 7 points, to win the game 19-14.
The impressive 6-1 win has pushed Hunstanton up the table and they will now hope to build on this and put a promotion run together.
Football/Rugby
The weather has decimated the local sports calendar over the past month.
Whilst King’s Lynn Town FC managed to play three games over the festive period - Peterborough Sports (2-2), Bedford Town (2-4) and Merthy Town (0-1) - and Heacham FC had an excellent 3-2 win at Fakenham, only Ingoldisthorpe FC’s match beat the weather on Saturday.
Unfortunately, they were on the end of a surprise 2-0 home defeat to lowly Dereham Town Development, who looked to have fielded a stronger side than usual. Thorpe are still in the mix for promotion from Division Four of the Anglian Combination League.
Both West Norfolk Men’s and Ladies RFU 1st XV games were postponed. The men face a tough match this coming Saturday where they travel to leaders, Stowmarket.
