Sports Update - Bank Holiday Weekend
Thornham 2nds travelled to Snettisham

Busy time of year as the Winter and Summer seasons overlap. All senior cricket clubs start their campaigns with wins and the Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike and Sunny Hunny Triathlon return this weekend.

Football

After King’s Lynn Town and Heacham FC nervously secured their status in their relevant divisions in April, all other local teams completed their campaigns.

In Division One of the Anglian Combination League, Dersingham Rovers were without a game but other results meant they came a creditable 6th after a turbulent season that had started with such high expectations.

In Division Three, Heacham Reserves signed off their campaign with home wins against AFC Lynn (4-0) and UEA Reserves (5-0) over the Bank Holiday weekend. They ended up 5th after a late burst of wins. Braces for Alfie Buhlemann and Tyler Marsh securing the AFC Lynn win, whilst another Buhlemann brace and a Jaden Poore double plus a goal for Kieran George was enough to see them to victory over UEA.

In Division Four, Dersingham Rovers had an excellent 2-0 win at champions Terrington Tigers to secure 2nd spot and, with it, promotion. Cameron Seal and Mason Haddleton with the goals. Ingoldisthorpe FC ended the season in 7th place.

In Division One of the North West Norfolk League, Dersingham Rovers ‘A’ ended the season in 4th, leapfrogging local foes Heacham Minors Development in the process in a 2-0 win at Heacham last week.

In Division Two, Ingoldisthorpe Reserves fought off a comeback from hosts West Winch in a 4-3 midweek thriller, to end the season in 4th. A Kai Mayes brace and a goal apiece for Bradley Rix and John Sapsford securing all three points. Dersingham U23’s finished in 7th place.

Cricket

It was a big weekend for all local cricket clubs over the weekend, as the senior sides all kick-started their new campaigns.

In Division Two of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, match of the weekend took place at Beccles where a half century from James Havers saw Sandringham & Dersingham 1st XI post a respectable 174. However, the hosts nearly chased down their target, only to lose their last wicket in the final over. Lloyd Richmond and James Hunt with hat-tricks.

In the same division, Bircham secured a 48 run victory at Gt. Witchingham 2nds. Posting 160, they skittled the home side out for 112. Peter Matthews and Liam Crompton hat-tricks leading them to victory.

In Division Three, Snettisham 1st XI began their season with a maximum points haul at Gt. Melton 2nds in a tense 10 run win. A century from Aaron Herbert set them on the way to 236 only for the home side to threaten an impressive run chase before falling just short. Damian Twiddy’s hat-trick the pick of the bowling stats.

In Division Four, Thornham 1st XI had a routine win at home to Diss 2nds. Having bowled the visitors out for a paltry 51 - aided by a Chris Burgess hat-trick - the home side easily chased down their target in just over ten overs.

Thornham 2nds travelled to Snettisham 3rds in an eagerly anticipated first local derby match of the season in Division Four of the Norfolk Cricket League. It was the Thornham outfit who gained the first bragging rights, as they quickly chased down their hosts target of 69 in just under 13 overs to win by nine wickets.
