Christmas jumpers and festive headbands sparkled as girls arrived for their joint Snettisham Brownies and Guides Christmas party.
As the Christmas music played, the games began with a tried and tested traditional game of musical statues. After that, as the hall wasn’t quite long enough, chairs were placed in a big candy cane shape ready for musical chairs. Suddenly, everything stopped as the doors opened to reveal our very special, furry guests!
Fully dressed up in Christmas attire, two miniature donkeys were a wonderful surprise - much to the delight of the girls happy squeals.
Lots of treats awaited them as the cute Christmas donkeys looked towards the buffet table - luckily their table and not the party food table! Full of scrumptious crunchy carrots, tasty apples, extra strong mints and ginger biscuits, Rodney and Chocky couldn’t wait for the girls to feed them.
With a few nervous outstretched palms the Brownies and Guides soon lost their worries to end up with a cuddle, pet, and take pictures with their new donkey friends.
Rodney and Chocky were the shinning stars of the evening encouraging the girls to even ask some questions about the size they could grow to, how small they could be, where they slept and if they wore Halloween outfits!
Full of gentle character, Brownies and Guides learnt that Rodney used to be a beach donkey whilst little Chocky liked to look at his reflection which he often did in the doors.
When it was time to end, Rodney and Chocky were able to relax and for an extra treat, helped mow the grass on Jimmy's Field before setting off home to bed armed with a few more bags of carrots and apples.
After a quick sweep and washing hands, it was time for the girls to tuck in to their own tasty banquet followed by gifts and Christmas wishes.
The charity, Miniature Donkeys for Fun and Therapy, visits care homes, schools, and many other events, spreading joy and education. They have opportunities to sponsor a donkey and much more on their Facebook page; please take a look. We thank them very much for visiting us on a dark winter's night.
