The Rose and Crown's Chicken Kyiv was a hit with customers
The Rose and Crown in Snettisham is the favoured haunt of Royals, locals and visitors and its terrific food, twisting passages, low ceilings and (in the colder seasons) roaring log fires make it everything you’d expect from a traditional Norfolk pub.
What you may not have expected though is their reaction to the news of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Within days the owners and staff had devised a plan to put their own twist on Chicken Kyiv (making sure they were using the Ukrainian spelling rather than the Russian version) and had contacted the British Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal to donate £1 for each Chicken Kyiv sold.
On Friday 4th March the Rose and Crown posted: “ This evening we launch our effort in supporting the people of Ukraine and hope that all our customers and friends will stand side-by-side with us and the victims of a senseless war. For every Kyiv sold, we shall donate £1 to The British Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal.”

The Black garlic Kyiv, quinoa, avocado and streaky bacon salad, ceasar dressing, white truffle oil and parmesan potato fries was an immediate hit and orders poured into the kitchen.
The 20th March saw the Rose and Crown posting: “Great news for fans of our Chicken Kyiv - Laura has been gathering beautiful new season wild garlic for the kitchen.”

One thousand and twenty portions of the dish have been sold and the money has been presented to the British Red Cross. The cheque is for £1020 and with gift aid that will mean £1224 for the charity in total.
