Sinkhole repairs to be done by Easter

The borough council's Environmental Health Manager reassures locals and businesses the prom will be open by Easter

Where machinery's being kept, in part of Hunstanton's Oasis leisure centre carpark, the barriers are on the move.

The team here are preparing for the concrete mixers to arrive, to finally start filling the sinkhole on the prom.

Environmental Health Manager, Dave Robson tells me, "We are doing final preparations for the concrete pour that will happen later this week.

"They'll be 3 or 4 trucks a day, and it'll be over several days, so we'll just have to see how long it takes in between low tide."

The void, which measures about the size of a single decker bus, appeared in February.  The council did a radar last year, and it wasn't there - recent bad weather's being blamed for the damage.

The repair bill will depend on how much concrete is needed, although it's expected to be around 100 thousand pounds.

A 140m stretch of the prom, and part of the beach, will continue to be closed whilst the work takes place.

Patricia, who's walking nearby, stops to have a chat and says, "I tried to see it when it first happened but it was all blocked off, it's amazing that it's taken quite so long to sort out, I can't quite make out why."

"It just takes a little bit of time to get things organised," says Mr Robson, "And go through the works, getting it signed off - make sure people are happy with what we're proposing.

"It is going well, it's on schedule - we'll be opening up the prom for Easter and we'll hopefully be finished within the next two weeks."
