Calling all older people living in and around Hunstanton! Arts charity Creative Arts East have just started running free creative workshops twice a month at the 1st Hunstanton Scout Hut on York Avenue, and all older people, including carers, those with dementia, other health conditions and mobility issues are invited to join in the fun!
The ‘Our Day Out’ project has been running in other locations across Norfolk for the last few years, and is all about engaging older people in fun, accessible, participatory music & dance workshops, giving participants the chance to meet new people, get out and about, and try a new type of creative activity! Past activities have included song-writing, drumming, contemporary dance, and even belly-dancing! At the moment the sessions will involve singing and music-making with Norfolk musicians Mary Lovett and Kim Moore.
95% of participants had made new social connections and felt their loneliness had decreased as a result of taking part in the sessions. One participant who attends our group at Wells-next-the-Sea said “My life seemed to be closing in until I found Our Day Out. I now have much more to look forward to, it has made my life brighter.” Another participant said about the sessions: “This is better than medicine!”
Join us at the 1st Hunstanton Scouts HQ at 6 York Avenue on Monday 7th October, 21st October, 4th November, 18th November, 2nd December and 16th December. Each session is 2.30 – 4.30pm. For more info and to sign-up, contact Creative Arts East on 01953 713390 or email lea@creativeartseast.co.uk.
