Scolthead Island Rescue

Tuesday evening saw the UK Coastguard requested the launch of the Hunstanton RNLI Hovercraft in response to reports of people cut off by the tide on Scolthead Island at Brancaster.

Soon after 5.15pm the Hunstanton RNLI Hovercraft launched on service to Brancaster as reports came in of 14 people cut off by the rising tide.

On arrival at Brancaster it was established that 13 people had swam ashore leaving one person on the island. He was taken on board the Hovercraft by the volunteer crew and landed on the beach into the care of the local coastguard response team.

Earlier the crew had been paged as a number of people were cut off on the sandbanks at Hunstanton. However, these people had all managed to make it back to the beach before the Hovercraft launched.
