Hunstanton Primary wins Young Carers in Schools Award.

Hunstanton Primary's been given the accolade to recognise the support it gives to children who are responsible for the care of a family member.

Headteacher Mrs Johanna Sullivan, says, “Our young carers show remarkable resilience and compassion every day, and it’s our privilege to support them. At Hunstanton Primary, we’re committed to ensuring every child feels understood, valued, and given the chance to succeed - no matter what challenges they face outside the classroom.”

The award is part of a programme run by two charities - The Children’s Society and Carers Trust -  which provide schools across England with step-by-step guidance for teachers, leaders and non-teaching staff, to help young carers.  The school's been commended for running clubs and drop-in sessions which provide vital support.

Vicky Morgan from Carers Trust, says  “Figures show there are two young carers in every classroom but balancing learning with looking after family members can be tough without help. By identifying young carers and putting support in place, schools and teachers can make a huge difference to their wellbeing and education. That’s why the brilliant work done by staff at Hunstanton Primary is so vital and why this award is so richly deserved.”

And Lisa Witherden from The Children’s Society adds, "We're absolutely thrilled that Hunstanton Primary has achieved the Young Carers in Schools award, demonstrating their commitment to identifying these hidden children and young people and ensuring they get the vital support they need to thrive in education and in life beyond school."
