After weeks of waiting, the Year 11 students of Smithdon High School were able to enjoy a fantastic evening at their prom.
An array of beautiful dresses and stylish, extravagant suits were on display at Knights Hill Hotel on Tuesday evening as parents watched the procession of cars drop off excited students, in anticipation of their final congregation as one whole year group. Two students, Charlie and Cameron, were even transported to the Prom by a hearse!
The Prom, originally planned for earlier in June to celebrate the end of their time at Smithdon, was finally allowed to go ahead in July. Through such a tough final year as students prepared and worked hard for their Centre Assessed Grades, it was important that they had something to look forward to. Other years were treated to a trip to Pleasurewood Hills and activities on the final days of term.
Students danced the night away to cult Smithdon classics such as ‘’Sweet Caroline’’ and ‘’Country road’’ before finishing the evening with the weather appropriate ‘’Summer of 69’’.
This was an excellent cohort of Year 11 students who have certainly been through a year of educational turmoil like no other. It is testimony to their strength and resilience that students were able to rise one more time to put on such a fantastic display of enjoyment.
Thanks also go out to all the supporting staff and parents who kindly offered their time to create such a wonderful atmosphere.
