North Norfolk Council closes major coastal car parks

A number of car parks on the North Norfolk coast will be closed in a bid to deter visitors during the coronavirus crisis.

A statement from North Norfolk District Council read:

“As part of its ongoing efforts in the response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), North Norfolk District Council has taken the decision to close the following coastal car parks with immediate effect:

  • Runton Road, Cromer
  • Beach Road, East Runton
  • Cart Gap, Happisburgh
  • Beach Road, Mundesley
  • Pauls Lane, Overstand
  • Clink Road, Sea Palling
  • Chequers, Sheringham
  • Cliff Road, Sheringham
  • Beach Road, Weybourne

“This follows news over the weekend of large crowds at tourist hotspots in our area despite Government advice on social distancing, and the closure of businesses and facilities which normally support visitors to these areas. We appreciate the co-operation and understanding of our residents and visitors during this time.”

Council-run car parks in town centres and shopping areas will remain open however.

The news comes following a government plea for people to stop non-essential travel such as travelling to second homes, camp sites and caravan parks.
