New Drama Club opens in Hunstanton

New Drama Club opens in Hunstanton
Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (LGSM) and LAMDA qualified teacher Ann McKimm

Professional drama teacher Ann McKimm is leading the club for youngsters aged 8-12.

Sponsored by the Hunstanton and District Festival of Arts and Hunstanton Town Council, the first session of the new club will be held in the Town Hall Hub on Tuesday 4th October 4-5pm.

With no amateur pantomime at the Town Hall this year, Ann Mc Kimm recognised that youngsters wouldn't have the opportunity to take part in what she describes as a really fun activity.

Ann said: "I started acting at the Modern College of Music and Drama in Walthamstow when I was eight years old playing Alice in Alice in Wonderland, I was hooked and and my passion for drama has given me a wonderful career and a lifetime of pleasure.

"I'm a member of the Festival of Arts and so I took the idea of a new drama club for youngsters to fill the gap left by the pantomime and the group agreed to sponsor it.

"The Town Council agreed to come on board by allowing us to use the Town Hall Hub free of charge."

Having qualified as a LGSM in 1982, Ann went on to gain her LAMDA qualification and her teaching career in schools and colleges included courses up to and including A level plus LAMDA and Guildhall exams.

"There will be homework," she said, "but fun is guaranteed and the youngsters will make new friends, work with others and gain confidence through storytelling, mime, improvisation and theatre games.

"The first term will run up to the Christmas holidays and if there's a demand we shall continue in the New Year."

Ann says that the club is suitable for all abilities and she's hoping that some enthusiastic young people of 14+ might want to come along to gain experience and learn about teaching drama themselves.

The cost is £2 per child and includes a drink. Please call 01485 533933 with any enquiries.
