A group of talented local musicians has shown the true power of music, raising a remarkable amount £11,059.26 for Tapping House through nearly 40 gigs and busking performances.
The band, called The Whickers, affectionately self-described as “just a bunch of old boys who enjoy making music and having fun,” started out humbly, busking to support Cancer Research UK while one of their members, Kev, was undergoing treatment. Inspired by the public’s enthusiasm and generosity, they shifted their focus to performing at pubs and clubs, supporting a cause close to many local hearts: Tapping House.
“We didn’t set out to perform for money - we just love music,” a band member, Mark Taylor shared. “But word spread, and people started asking us to play at their venues. We don’t advertise or use social media - it’s all word of mouth!”
The band’s passion for music is matched only by their dedication to making a difference. The funds they’ve raised will help Tapping House provide vital Hospice care and support to families in the community.
“The response from the public has been amazing. So many people have a connection to Tapping House, and it shows in their generosity,” the band noted.
They also expressed heartfelt thanks to the pubs and clubs that welcomed them and to the incredible audiences who’ve supported their journey.
“This is about more than music - it’s about the community coming together to give back. It’s been such a joy to be part of that.” adds Mark Taylor.

Tapping House, which offers compassionate care to those with life-limiting illnesses, shared its gratitude for the band’s dedication and the generosity of the public. Victoria Rush, Head of Fundraising at Tapping House said, ‘it really is down to these incredible acts of generosity from our local community that makes all the difference to our Fundraising efforts for the Hospice. During these unprecedented times for the Hospice sector, we really do need all the help we can get and we can’t thank The Whickers enough for raising this incredible amount.”
If you’d like to catch this brilliant group live, keep an ear out - though they don’t advertise, they’ve been known to pop up in pubs and clubs across the local area, raising not just the roof but also vital funds for a worthy cause.
