We continued to enjoy some quite remarkable music during June and impress the audiences with the quality of music at Music in the Burnhams.
Adrian and Bradbury together with the young cellist from Norwich School had the pupils dancing with joy at their performance at Burnham Market Primary School and Adrian and Leo followed that with a quite breathtaking recital the following day including the first performance of Leo’s beautiful Suite for two cellos.
One of the world’s most famous double bass players, Leon Bosch showed us that the bass is not just for the back row of the orchestra. The Beethoven horn sonata sounded as good on the bass as it does on the horn and as for the glorious 18 Negro Spirituals, Paul Robeson could not have done better.
So how do we keep up these standards? Perhaps by another unusual combination. Professor Benedict Holland is part of the permanent music team at Music in the Burnhams and on Saturday July 5th at 3pm at St Mary’s Church Westgate he will be joined by the organist for Edinburgh Canongate Kirk, Simon Leach to play Handel, Widor, Bach and Lloyd Weber.
At 7.30pm on July 12th at St Mary’s Church Brancaster British Saxophonist Rob Burton who won the Woodwind Category Final of BBC Young Musician 2018 and went on to secure a place in the Grand Final will be joined by Texan pianist Mark Rogers who won First prize in the Royal Philharmonic’s Society Young Writers Awards in 2021.
Rob and Mark will play Schumann, Debussy and Ravel.
Tickets for both concerts at £20 (Under 18s come free) and available from: musicintheburnhams.com 07989 177079.
July is the time of year when we have our workshop at Burnham Market Primary School which culminates in a costumed production on the last day. This year Jodie Wiggins, Callum Adkins and Charlie Eastwood have written a special production for the school and over the two days from July 8th to July 11 they will be working hard with the students to put on another memorable performance.
This will include most of the school for as well as the singers, there are prop makers, screen painters, costume designers and stage management roles to fill. As this will be Jodie, Callum and Charlie’s third year overseeing the workshop it will be extra special, we are sure. Tickets are just £10 each. Under 18s free.
