Local Singing group seek a new Musical Director or a new Accompanist

The West Norfolk Singers are a local Choir who meet weekly at the Methodist Church in Heacham.

They have been in existence for about 70 years formerly as The Heacham and West Norfolk Singers and now simply as The West Norfolk Singers. They are a group of 25 to 30 singers attracting a full range of Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses with varying levels of ability. They have all joined without any audition but ideally with an ability to read music and a desire to make music.

Committee member Stephen Kent explained: "We currently have a Musical Director under the baton of Jean Hornbuckle who is retiring from this position at the end of our Summer Term; the Choir are therefore on the lookout to find a replacement.

"Our current Accompanist, Loc-Mai Yuen, an accomplished concert pianist, has said she would be happy to take on the role of Musical Director although would prefer not to carry out both tasks at the same time. 

"She has said that she is equally happy to remain as Accompanist and help induct a new Musical Director, so we have the choice of seeking either the replacement Musical Director or Accompanist; it just depends on who is out there and would like to join this happy group of Singers - and we are a Happy Group!"

The West Norfolk Singers put on a number of performances around West Norfolk and regularly perform in local churches, Halls and, particularly at Christmas, Retirement homes and Tapping House at Hillington. In view of the health benefits that derive from singing, they receive support from Heacham Amenity Fund and the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk as well as a number of Patrons.

The range of music that they sing varies from early church music, choral works, songs from well-known Musicals and other pieces. Currently they are rehearsing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, John Stainer – God so Loved the World (Crucifixion), The Rhythm of Life, Cachucha (G&S), Thank you for the Music, The Wind beneath my Wings and numerous other items that are fun to sing.
