Thursday 5th March 2020 - Mayday Launch to Yacht
At 6.34pm UK Coastguard requested the launch of the Hunstanton RNLI Lifeboat in response to a report of a Mayday call received from a vessel in difficulty off Brancaster.
Hunstanton volunteer RNLI crew launched on service and proceeded to Brancaster. On arrival at the scene a 34ft yacht was located aground on the sands north of Scolt Head. Due to the sea state the lifeboat was unable to get close enough to the beach to put crew ashore. The Coastguard then tasked the CG Helicopter. Hunstanton Lifeboat remained on the scene until the lone yachtsman was evacuated by the Helicopter, and landed at Brancaster into the care of the local Coastguard and police teams. As no other persons were involved the lifeboat was released to return to station, returning at 9.00pm.
