"Is your home hard to heat?" asks the Borough Council

KLWNBC is running a number of events to help residents with energy efficiency and grants.

For anyone who finds their home is hard to keep warm, the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk may be able to help and invites residents to come for a chat at one of its events running in February and March.

The events are primarily aimed at people who live in private rented accommodation, whose landlords may have a legal responsibility to improve the energy efficiency of the home they live in to an acceptable standard.

The council is also ready to support landlords with advice about how to access grants.

Councillor Sam Sandell, cabinet member for people and communities, explains: “Most private rented accommodation should have an Energy Performance Certificate, and on that certificate the property must reach at least level E.

“With all the news stories circulating about energy price rises, now is the time to check whether your home reaches an energy efficient standard and the council is here to help residents do that.

“If your home doesn’t meet the standard we can advise you, and may act to make the landlord undertake energy efficiency improvements.

“For landlords we can give guidance about responsibilities and point them to grants they can apply for that may help meet the cost of making improvements.

“Running these events will benefit both tenants and landlords, and also fits with our wider commitment to tackling climate change by reducing our use of energy to heat homes in the borough.”

Although the events are mainly for tenants and landlords, the council is happy to give advice to any person who is interested in making their home more energy efficient.

Residents can come along and chat at one of the council’s advice stands as follows:

Tuesday, 15th February 2022 – King’s Lynn (10am – 3pm) – town centre: corner of High Street and Purfleet Street

Saturday, 19th February 2022 – Hunstanton (10am – 2pm) – The Spinney

Saturday, 5th March 2022 – King’s Lynn (10am – 2pm) – town centre: corner of High Street and Purfleet Street

Friday, 11th March 2022 – Downham Market (8am – 3pm – market day) – Town Hall car park

Tuesday, 15th March 2022 – King’s Lynn (10am – 2pm – market day) – town centre: corner of High Street and Purfleet Street
