Hunstanton students hit the spot for Children in Need

What works out with Joe Wicks and is covered in spots?

The answer could be found at Smithdon High School yesterday when staff and students undertook two different challenges to raise money for this year’s Children in Need campaign.

The ‘Spotacular’ Fancy Dress Challenge invited students at the Hunstanton school to swap their uniforms for the spottiest possible outfit, with prizes awarded for the best costumes, while the ‘Bearpees’ Challenge – which was instigated by fitness coach and presenter Joe Wicks for Children in Need – tasked the fundraisers with achieving 1,000 burpees during the school’s 40-minute lunch break. Sports leaders at the secondary school were on hand to help count the repetitions.

Smithdon, which is part of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, takes part in Children in Need every year, and hopes to have raised over £500 for the charity this time round.

“Events like this are very important as Children in Need support local projects that support our cohort,” said Deputy Headteacher Sarah Robinson, who organised the day. “They also give students an understanding of the challenges faced by other children around the country.”
