Hunstanton sinkhole - void underneath about the size of a single decker bus

Investigations show it measures 3.5m deep and 14m wide in places

West Norfolk Council says it's coming up with a repair plan after the sinkhole appeared last week on the South Promenade.

Ground penetrating radar surveys have been carried out, and environmental health manager, Dave Robson, says the hole leads to a 'much bigger void underneath' -  measuring 3.5m deep and 14m wide in places.

Until repair works can take place, an area remains closed off - between the Waterside Bar and Oasis leisure centre.

Robson adds that continuing high tides and bad weather would make repairs difficult.

The prom surface was built in the 1950s, the Borough Council received a geotechnical report last year that revealed the extent of the problems with the road.

A weight restriction was immediately introduced, and a feasibility study commissioned.

Cllr Sandra Squire says, "We simply ask visitors to follow safety guidance, avoid fenced off areas, and keep clear of ongoing works.”
