To say we live in strange times is an understatement! For many of us the enforced lockdown is a source of frustration as we are separated from family and friends.
Within the local Rotary Club, meetings are now virtual via Zoom, while major fundraising and community events have been cancelled, including the Norton Hill Railway weekend and the Kite Fair and Classic Car Rally.
The Club has noted the positivity of communities looking to support one another and people ‘going the extra mile’ to help one another through this period.
President John Crofts said:
"We all know of businesses ensuring that those self-isolating are kept supplied with food, of people co-ordinating efforts to shop for food and medication for others and of ways in which friends, families and neighbours have stimulated us all to join together through social media to promote physical and mental wellbeing.
"It is for this reason that my Rotary Club are launching a Community Award scheme to recognise the heroes of this period and I would encourage you to email me on johnpcrofts@gmail.com or phone me on 01485 525142 to nominate your hero including a brief reason why you have nominated them. We will then ensure that all receive at least a certificate of recognition, but also, for those deemed the most worthy, a financial reward. The more nominations we receive the greater the impact, so please show your appreciation in this way.
