Perchance you have spotted a group of ladies jogging around Hunstanton on a Thursday evening, chances are you have spotted the Hunstanton Hunny Bees Running Club.

In a bid to emulate the success of the Ladybirds Running Club in King’s Lynn who celebrated their 25th birthday last year, the Hunstanton branch was created in the summer of 2018 and has grown from strength to strength, with almost 60 members in their Facebook group to date.

Inspired by a previous initiative from Reebok called the ‘Reebok Running Sisters’ waves of ladies running groups throughout the country have formed and Hunstanton, in collaboration with Alive Leisure, has followed suit.

Following its success last year, two more six-week courses have been introduced with the last course in February and the current course from April of this year.

Their ethos is "fun, fitness and friendship" and member Jo Wyborn emphasises that they are “open to all ages, all capabilities and everybody waits for everybody else. It’s a nice social event.” Fellow member Sue Merkitt also praises how running greatly benefits mental health.

The Hunny Bees typically meet every Thursday evening at 6.30pm at the Victorian Pavilion (Crazy Golf Hut by the play area) in Hunstanton Heritage Gardens. If you are interested in learning more about the Hunny Bees or are interested in joining you can join their Facebook group ‘Hunstanton Hunny Bees Running Club.’
