Residents are being invited to have their say on three Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPO) which restrict alcohol consumption in areas of King's Lynn, Hunstanton and Downham Market.
Cllr Brian Long, Leader of the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk said: "These orders are due to expire on 30 September and before they can be renewed, we must consult with the public and key stakeholders. We would urge people to look at the existing orders and the changes that are being proposed, and let us know whether they think the orders should renewed, amended or allowed to expire."
The orders do not ban drinking alcohol in a public place, but they do confer upon the Police and designated council officers the power to require people to stop drinking or to surrender their alcohol if there has been, or is likely to be, an alcohol related disorder.
The current PSPOs cover only parts of King's Lynn and Hunstanton, while the whole town of Downham Market is covered. In this consultation, residents are being asked if they think the PSPOs should be extended to cover the majority of Hunstanton and King's Lynn too.
If renewed, the PSPOs would be effective from 1 October 2020 and would be in place for three years.
All three orders can be viewed online, from Friday 7 August, at www.west-norfolk.gov.uk/haveyoursay where comments can also be submitted.
The consultation period opens on 7 August 2020 and closes on 4 September 2020
