Moving to green energy and other practical measures to reduce environmental impact are set to be considered by the County Council.
The Council’s cabinet will hear how a green tariff will save 9,100 tonnes of CO2 per year, at an annual cost of £16,000.
Councillor Andrew Jamieson, cabinet member for finance, said: “We are committed to reducing our impact on the planet and demonstrating how other organisations and individuals can do the same.
“That’s why we are proposing a series of practical measures, which all add up to a significant contribution.”
In addition to the green tariff, the council is proposing to:
- Replace single use paper cups at County Hall’s coffee outlets with ceramic cups
- Ensure only recycled paper is used in the council’s photocopiers, at no additional cost
- Investigate whether electric pool cars can be introduced, as part of the introduction of a new contract
Cabinet will consider the report when it meets at 10am on Monday, 15 July 2019. The meeting will be webcast live on YouTube and a recording available on the same channel afterwards.
