Goodbye wonky yellow lines

The new restrictions in Old Hunstanton, that made national headlines, have been repainted.

"I heard they were terrible - it wasn't me," jokes one of the workmen as I walk up Sea Lane. The yellow lines are being painted for a second time, after they were so wonky they made the national headlines and left locals wondering if whoever had done them had 'had a few'.

Today (Tuesday) the team's using a bit of rope and a spray can to carefully mark out the lines before they're painted on, and the council's here overseeing the work.

Work being carried out on Sea Lane to redo the wobbly lines

"Hopefully this time they'll make a better job of them," a nearby resident tells me, "They were quite wobbly! Glad they're getting redone."

Steve, who's just been to the beach cafe for a take away, stops to tell me he thinks the lines added to the quirkiness of the village, "Sort of added to the 'olde wordle' feel of the place, I didn't mind them."

Norfolk County Council admitted the lines were 'below standard' and ordered remedial work as a 'matter of urgency'.

The new restrictions came into force in July to address congestion and parking issues, some residents are worried visitors aren't taking any notice of them, whilst others think it's creating other issues.

Rebecca, who lives along Old Hunstanton Road, says people are taking to parking in 'dangerous' places, "Parts of the road where there's just no room.  One lady stopped the other day, and I said to her you really can't park there - they'd be no room for buses or emergency vehicles to get by, and she swore at me."

People have also been blocking her driveway, "The language some of them use when you ask them to move is just awful."  She says it needs a rethink.

Reiterating, "These changes have been implemented at the request of the parish council to ease traffic congestion and parking issues in the area whilst retaining some on street parking provision for both local residents and visitors."
