Gold for all three of our towns

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk is celebrating a superb set of results at Anglia in Bloom!

The results of the East of England’s premier environmental and floral competition were announced at the annual awards ceremony, held this year in St Ives on 10 September, and west Norfolk won gold for each of its market towns, including best overall entry for Hunstanton.

The results were:

- King’s Lynn: Gold (city category) and overall category winner;
- Hunstanton: Gold (Coastal category up to 35,000 residents), overall category winner
and best overall entry - Winner of the Anglia in Bloom Trophy;
- Downham Market - Gold (Town category up to 12000 residents);
- Hardwick Cemetery: Gold (Cemeteries over 10 acres) and category winner;
- Mintlyn Crematorium: Silver Gilt (Crematoriums).

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, deputy leader of the borough council and cabinet member for Culture, Heritage and Health, said: “I am so proud of the achievements we have made this year. Gold for all three towns, with King's Lynn and Hunstanton also category winners. The icing on the cake was when the judges declared that Hunstanton was overall winner of the Anglia in Bloom trophy.

"None of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our loyal staff and the voluntary efforts of many groups and individuals that support our Anglia in Bloom entries. The work that goes on, in our nursery growing the plants, and in the early mornings watering the displays, often goes unnoticed. I am delighted to say that the outcome of all that work has provided stunning displays across our borough and now all that effort has been recognised in these awards. A big thank you to everyone involved"

"I’d also like to congratulate the other groups and organisations in our borough who received awards this year. Their work complements and strengthens ours to make west Norfolk a more beautiful place to live, work and visit for everyone”.

There was a Special Award for the amazing Fountain and Waterfall bed designed and made by Kate Dunbar assisted by husband James and countless children who painted plastic flowers recycling bottles at the workshops held on the Esplanade Gardens during the summer.

Other award winners in King’s Lynn & West Norfolk were:

- Best Young Persons Project (12 to 18 years of age): Hunstanton

- Village (up to 2,500 residents): Bircham Silver
