GCSE results: students celebrate across West Norfolk

Plenty of smiles as teenagers receive their grades.

It's been a big day for high school students with GCSE results.

Springwood High's top achievers include Aritra Kar with ten grade 9’s and a grade 7, Ethan Soong with nine grade 9s and two grade 8s, and Sara Mohammed with nine grade 9s and a grade 8.

Sara, one of the top achieving students in the country for Health and Social Science, says she feels 'ecstatic', and wants to offer some advice for next year's students, "Work hard and believe in yourself.”

47% of students gained 5 or more in English and Maths and more than 13% gained a 7+, an improvement on last year.

Science results at the school continue to excel with 60% of students achieving a grade 5 or higher.

Lewis Meehan, who excelled in Springwood's music and STEM programmes says, “It has been such a supportive school with great teaching staff. I loved being part of Big Band which helped me to develop my passion for music.”

Victoria Mann, Head of Year 11, adds, “I am thrilled to see the results for this cohort, they have worked so hard over the past two years and I could not be prouder seeing their efforts come to fruition.”

Staff and students at Hunstanton’s Smithdon High School have also been celebrating.

Headteacher, Amanda Gibbins, saying, “This year has also seen positive progress made in our optional subjects, with results in German, Drama, Art and Business Studies especially all coming in line with our consistently top subject of Maths”.

Freddie Ince who got two 9s, five 8s, one 7 and one 6 says, “I'm very happy with the results I got and will be doing maths, further maths, physics, and economics."

Darcy Kent who gained 3 Grade 8s, 4 Grade 7s and 3 Grade 6s, says, “I've definitely got more confident, as I was very shy and anxious when I started in Year 7. A lot of that is down to the teachers, and also all the opportunities on offer there. I pushed myself a lot and took part in musicals and drama, and two piano shows.”

Hope Marriott, is the highest achieving girl with a Distinction *, 2 Grade 9s, 4 Grade 8s, 1 Grade 7 and 2 Grade 6s.

Chair of Governors, Andy Gee, adds, “It’s a pleasure to watch students progress through the school and see the culmination of their hard work being celebrated on results day.”

Alderman Peel High, in Wells-next-the-Sea, is celebrating the best results it's ever recorded.
