Football Update - W/E 8th/9th February

What a difference a week can make as local teams involved in pivotal matches this weekend.

A week ago, King's Lynn's play off place in the National League North was in jeopardy. Now, after a superb 1-0 win at manager Adam Lakeland's previous club, Curzon Ashton, the Linnets have leapfrogged their opponents into 4th place.

With leaders, Chester City, also losing Lynn are back in contention for automatic promotion. A Tommy Hughes goal early in the second half was enough to secure the points against the meanest defence in the division. Lakeland said, “we controlled a lot of the game and deserved it. I am just really made up for the players”. With their next six games all against teams below them in the table, Lakeland will now be looking to put some pressure on the teams above them.

Heacham FC were without a game this weekend, although manager Paul Hunt will be pleased with the performances of Nathan Davies and Toby Hilliard who both turned out for the reserves, returning from injury and suspension respectively. Heacham are preparing for the visit of Cornard United on Saturday.

In Division One of the Anglian Combination League, Dersingham Rovers had an excellent 4-0 win at Stalham Town. A brace for Scott Sutherland-Gray and a goal apiece for Lewis Curson and Dane Schmuda enough to seal three points. The win puts them right in the mix for the promotion places, level on points with 3rd place.

In Division Four, 3rd placed Heacham Reserves had the returning first team players Nathan Davies and Toby Hilliard available to them as they welcomed second placed Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers ‘A’ to their Station Road base. Despite going 2 down, Heacham rallied with goals from Hilliard and Tom Beattie to take a share of the spoils. Dersingham Rovers did their local rivals a favour with a fantastic 4-0 win over leaders North Walsham Town Reserves. A sublime Jack Rix hat-trick and a goal from Joshua Seal doing the damage in the impressive win that has re-ignited a promotion push.

In Division One of the North West Norfolk League, Ingoldisthorpe Reserves secured a hard earned point in a 0-0 draw with West Winch William Burt FC. They remain second from bottom in the table.
In Division Two, FC St. Edmunds Hunstanton good run of late continued as they comfortably dispatched Gaywood FC 2-0. The local outfit moved up a place in the table to 11th. Two goals from the in-form Colby Auker enough to take all three points.
