A packed weekend of local football threw up some interesting results and three hat-tricks
Heacham FC will feel aggrieved at losing 1-0 to high flyers Ely City having missed key chances. Heacham slip to 15th in the table. They host bottom of the table Long Melford at home on Saturday (3pm Kick off).
Heacham Walking Football managed to beat their Ely counterparts 1-0, a wonderful Colin Chilvers goal nicking a win. Delighted manager, Steve Watson, said, “we played well and deserved it. I was impressed how we passed the ball about and our game management after we took the lead”. The result bodes well for the improving side as they prepare for the National Walking Football FA Cup later on in the season.
In Division One of the Anglian Combination League, Dersingham Rovers promotion push was slightly de-railed as they lost to Loddon United 2-1 away. Despite an early goal from Sam Peck and controlling large parts of the game, they failed to capitalise and will see this very much as points dropped. They remain in 5th place, five points adrift of the promotion places.
In Division Three, second from bottom Ingoldisthorpe FC welcomed leaders Watlington to the Drift. The game looked to be going to form as the visitors took an early 3-0 lead, before the ‘Thorpe woke up. A Dylan Ess hat-trick and a goal for Jake Ess plus a fantastic last minute save from Josh Herbert, meant the home side came away with a creditable point in the 4-4 draw against the runaway leaders. Chairman, Eddie Herbert, said, “fantastic game and maybe just the confidence boost we need”.
In Division Four, Brenhars Fish Bar sponsored the match whilst Heacham WFC sponsored the match ball, as Heacham Reserves had a convincing 7-0 win over Watton United Reserves and are now just one point off the top three, whilst Dersingham Reserves were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Madra but remain in 4th. Josh Smith netted.
In Division One of the North West Norfolk League, with leaders Reffley Youth FC in cup action, Dersingham Rovers ‘A’ took advantage, returning to the top of the table with a 4-0 victory at West Winch William Burt FC. A Nathan Mitchell hat-trick and Zack Kingshott goal sealing the win. Result of the weekend, however, came from Ingoldisthorpe Reserves who hauled themselves off the bottom of the table with a 6-0 thrashing of Marshland Saints Reserves. A hat-trick from Thomas Host, a brace from Bradley Rix and a goal from Kieran Stevenson securing all three points in the convincing win which will hopefully kickstart a revival.
In Division Two, both Heacham Minors FC Development and FC St. Edmund’s Hunstanton games were postponed.
Heacham FC U18’s moved joint top of the Thurlow Nunn Youth League last week with a convincing 6-1 win against North Walsham U18’s. However, results now mean they have slipped to 4th. Their match against Fakenham Town U18’s last night (Tuesday 21st January) has been postponed. They welcome 2nd placed Sheringham U18’s next week.
