King’s Lynn Town Guides plan to raise hundreds of pounds for Festival Too with a brand-new, family friendly historic town walk.

The walk will take place at 11.00am on Sunday July 2 and it is hoped to attract local families and introduce them to the rich history of King’s Lynn.

Ivor Rowlands, chair of King’s Lynn Guides (KLTG) explains: “Most people who attend our walks are from out of town, but we do get local people as well. We often hear locals say ‘Well, I never knew that’ when they attend one of our walks. We aim to put that right with this special tour. It’s really rewarding when we take people who have lived in Lynn all their lives but don’t realise just how much there is to see right on their own door-step.

“Festival Too has been going for over 30 years and is keeping alive a tradition of using the Tuesday Market Place as an entertainment venue, as it has been for over 800 years. We’re pleased to be working with the Festival Too committee to raise awareness of the historical aspects of the town and the work of the Town Guides, at the same time as raising funds to help keep the entertainment going”

As an additional feature, to encourage families with children to take part in the walk, the guides will be providing family-friendly fun-sheets, suitable for children of all ages to complete when attending a walk with an adult.

Developed by an experienced primary school teacher, each fun-sheet comprises a series of photographs of buildings and features taken along the route, for children to identify. There are three different fun-sheets, each progressively more difficult, so there is something for children of all ages. They are:

1. Funny Faces - a simple tick-list of things to look out for on the walk.

2. Famous Folk - answer a question on each feature.

3. Find the Feature and Name the Building - obscure or close-up pictures to identify.

The free walk lasts approximately two hours at a strolling pace and goes from Saturday Market Place to Tuesday Market Place. To join in, simply turn up at outside the Town Hall before 11am on Sunday July 2, and collect the free fun-sheet. Donations to the FToo bucket collection can be made at the end of the walk.

The Town Guides make a small charge for their walks, but for this one, every penny raised will be given to Festival Too.
