Interviewed by Richard Dix of KL1 Radio, Rev Dan Tansey, Rector of St Mary's tells us what's happening in the coming weeks.
Arts, Crafts, Music and Poetry events are due to take place in the stunning surroundings of this historic Norfolk church.
Rev Dan explained that there’s loads going on during St Mary’s Snettisham’s summer season with the finale act on 18th September, Tennessee Twin, a really talented couple who will be performing some Country and Western hits.

Before that the East Anglian female choir, Serenata, will be part of the St Mary’s Arts and Crafts Festival over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd August, then local artist Erin Elizaa will be singing at the church on 9th August.

Talking about the church acoustics he said: “We barely need microphones here, when I’m standing at the front of the church I can hear people whispering at the back (you have been warned!) - it's a fantastic acoustic, so the sound is amazing when you come to a concert here.”
Moving into September, St Mary’s welcomes Roger McGough on 3rd.
Each of the events bring something different and very special, Serenata will be presenting a programme of uplifting songs and words celebrating flight on 3rd August. They will soar into the blue yonder with Stanford’s bluebird, ask a Skylark for advice on love (Hoagy Carmichael / Johny Mercer), hear the Beatles’ Blackbird singing at dead of night and hold our breath as a fledgling Robin braves its first flight from the safety of the nest. Together we’ll travel to the moon and stars, fly across the ethereal beauty of the Arctic Tundra (through Ola Gjeilo’s dramatic imagery) and experience the power and beauty of Emily Dickinson’s ‘Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul’, in a contemporary musical setting.

Local singer-songwriter Erin Eliza is a 21-year-old acoustic folk pop musician, combining soft toned vocals with a sweet-sounding acoustic guitar. Finding inspiration in nostalgia, the passing of time and past experiences in relationships make for an interesting perspective in her lyrics and songwriting.
Tickets on the door £10 (including a drink) for her concert on Saturday 9th August.
At 87 and a national treasure, Roger McGough presents Radio 4's flagship programme Poetry Please and remains one of the most recognisable voices in British poetry.
In this new show which comes to Snettisham on 3rd September, McGough takes audiences on a journey through his life in poetry, back to his childhood during the Liverpool blitz and bomb-shelters, his youth as a contemporary of the Beatles and Bob Dylan and the fame of number one hits and Top of the Pops with ‘Lily the Pink’ and ‘Thank You Very Much’ with the band The Scaffold.
His new book Collected Poems 1959-2024 published by Penguin Vintage is a distillation of over 40 books across 60 years of work. Still gigging regularly, McGough has thrilled and delighted generations of readers with his irreverent, intimate and ever-original poetry.
